United States: White Males Fading Among House Democrats

Source:

House Democrats will make history in the 2012 election, sending to Congress next January the first women and minority-majority party faction in U.S. history. A new analysis by the Cook Political Report reveals a further progression of white flight from the Democratic Party, which is increasingly represented by women and minorities, while the GOP remains a party dominated by white men.

On a national level, Democrats are doing a better job of appealing to women and minority voters because those voters see themselves reflected in the party representation.

But in the House, the party is increasingly anchored in urban and suburban areas based on how congressional districts are drawn, ceding almost all of rural America to the GOP and raising doubts about Democrats' ability to win a House majority when they are so geographically restricted.
