iKNOW Politics at the 10th Congress of the Ibero-American Union of Municipal Leaders (UIM)

On October 14 through 19, Ibero-American Municipal Leaders Week: "Good Governance and Quality of Local Democracy" and the 10th Congress of the Ibero-American Union of Municipal Leaders were held in Almería (Spain), organized by the the Ibero-American Union of Municipal Leaders (UIM), together with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Almería Town Council, Almería District Council and the Menéndez Pelayo International University.

 

Over 500 people attended the event, which included four days of plenary sessions, 26 thematic panels and various activities prepared by the UIM.  On Wednesday, October 17 at 5:30 p.m., as part of the panel "Gender and Local Action," Rossana Andía, iKNOW Politics regional coordinator for Latin American and the Caribbean, gave a presentation on the network as a key tool for women in politics in local government and the new information and communications technology (ICT).  The panel was coordinated by María García Pizarro and members included Ana Falú from Argentina;  María Eugenia Rojas from Bolivia; Adelma Salas de Ruiz from Paraguay; Letizia Elizeche from Paraguay; Mario G. Madrid from Argentina and Liliana Pertuy from Uruguay. Approximately 50 people attended the panel, including authorities from local governments in the region.
