International conference on women's political participation in Africa

Source:

While on the 10th of December the world was celebrating Human Rights Day, in Bujumbura (Burundi) the International Conference on “Women’s Political Participation and their Role in the Prevention of Electoral Violence in Africa”, organized by Cordaid’s Women’s Leadership for Peace and Security (WLPS), kicked off.

Over 100 delegates from more than 10 African countries, representing Civil Society Organizations as well as Government’s and academic institutes, got together in Bujumbura at the Best Outlook Hotel that overlooks Lake Tanganyika to exchange their country-specific experiences, share lessons learned and formulate best practices that contribute to a better representation of women in politics and particularly during the electoral process in African countries. I was privileged to be among them.
