Stakeholders for greater participation of women in politics, Nepal

Various stakeholders have stressed the need for greater participation of women in politics by introducing pro-women legislation, policy frameworks and advocacy mechanisms. They have also said that there should be regional advocacy mechanisms to encourage women´s participation in politics and leadership roles.

Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day long regional exchange meeting on women´s political participation and leadership, Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel said there is a need to empower women by setting up effective mechanisms. 

“There is a need to empower women by giving them access to property and credit,” Poudel said. “Women without right to property are vulnerable.” He also stated that the country cannot prosper without equal participation of women in all walks of life.
