Rwanda study tour for African women parliamentarians

A delegation of women parliamentarians comprising representatives from national parliaments from eight African countries are expected in Rwanda next Monday on a week-long study tour.The parliamentarians will share ideas and exchange experiences on the achievements and challenges with their Rwandan counterparts through their leadership participation, an official source revealed in Kigali on Thursday.

Among the countries that will be represented on the tour includes Burundi, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Mali, Madagascar, Niger and Eritrea.The overall theme of the tour is Building an Enabling Environment for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Political Participation in Africa the Rwandan parliament said in the statement.

According to officials statistics, Rwanda is currently ranked as the first country in the world where women outnumber men in parliament, occupying 45 out of 80 seats
