This report discusses the growing feminization of the AIDS epidemic. It argues that the spread of HIV/AIDS is embedded in a socio-economic context in which men have greater social, economic and legal status and better access to resources, while women have comparatively little power, limited legal rights, less access to information, and fewer ways to earn a living. It includes a brief example of UNDP efforts to combat the epidemic in Ethiopia.
