Voter Outreach
Voter outreach must be a focal point of any campaign, as ensuring voter turnout requires persuasion. Important components of voter outreach include: Raising issues of concern; educating voters on such issues and a candidate’s overall platform; registering voters and mobilizing them to vote for a candidate or an issue. Some commonly used voter outreach techniques are brochures, direct mail, phone calls, door-to-door visits and public events.

Iraq: Women take prominent role in Iraqi vote
Submitted by iKNOW Politics on Wed, 2010-03-03 09:27
Summary:
"The quota was very important in the previous elections because we live in a male-dominated society and the quota was necessary to give women a chance to have a political role," al-Douri told The Associated Press at the offices of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in the Shiite slum of Sadr City, where the prayers were held last week.
"But in the future this quota should be removed and women should compete equally with men, because women politicians have proven their competence and reliability in politics," said al-Douri, who is running for a second term on the slate of al-Sadr's party.

Peru: Parties Thwart Public Demand for Women in Politics
Submitted by iKNOW Politics on Mon, 2009-12-07 11:25
Summary:
Peru has been boosting the political participation of women since it passed its gender quota law in 1997, establishing that 30 percent of the spots on candidate lists must be reserved for women. This was complemented a decade later with the 2007 Equal Opportunities Act.
But "there's still no law that stipulates male-female alternation on candidate lists for parliament and municipal and regional governments, which would prevent women from being relegated to the last positions," Anel Townsend, former Women and Social Development Minister, said to IPS. Townsend was the most-voted female candidate elected to congress in 2001, and in her parliamentary activity she has promoted several gender-related initiatives.
Party leadership positions in Peru are still predominantly occupied by men, who are very reluctant to relinquish any of their power, so they place women far down on the slates of candidate where they have little chance of being elected, she added.

Turkey: Premier Erdogan emphasized family merits and women's role
Submitted by iKNOW Politics on Mon, 2009-12-07 11:13
Summary:
Expressing his pride in enfranchisement of the Turkish women before many others in the world, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that women have undertaken very important tasks in development of Turkey since the proclamation of the Republic. Prime Minister Erdogan also said as follows: “A world where women are oppressed is unlivable. A world where they are ignored is deprived of beauty. A world where they are isolated goes without compassion and affection. A world where they are regarded cheap labor is unfair. So I am saying that politics, democracy or administration without women involved is injustice, inequity and imperfection for all the society.”

Paraguay: Indigenous Women Leaders Buck Discrimination
Submitted by iKNOW Politics on Tue, 2009-11-17 09:58
Summary:
Estela Maris Álvarez is one of these women who have decided to stand up and beat the odds, challenging the abuse and discrimination they face both within and outside their communities. Álvarez is a member of the Enxet people, an indigenous group in Paraguay's Chaco region, an area of semi-arid grasslands and thorny forests. She lives in La Herencia, a community in the western part of the country, located 340 km from Asunción.
"It's not easy for an indigenous woman to access a decision-making position in her community," she said, recalling how when she started taking on a leadership role, she was never invited by the tribal chiefs to the important meetings. "But that didn’t stop me from going," she added.
