Culture Matters – Working with Communities and Faith-based Organizations
This report provides insight into integrating cultural analysis in development programmes, especially in the critical areas of gender equity and equality and reproductive health and rights. The culmination of two years' work with UNFPA field offices, headquarters staff and technical advisers, the report examines culturally sensitive programming during the past decade in a number of countries where UNFPA operates- Brazil, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Uganda and Yemen.
Women National Committee
The Women National Committee is a committee of the government of Yemen, operating under the Supreme Council for Women Affairs. It proposes policies, strategies, plans, and programs related to women's affairs, and evaluates the performance standard of gender legislation and laws in the different national bodies.
Building Democracy in Yemen: Women's Political Participation, Political Party Life and Democratic Elections
This report is the result of a project carried out by International IDEA and the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), aimed at discussing democratic reform in Egypt, Jordan and Yemen. It focuses on three main themes: electoral system reform, the political participation of women and the development of political parties. It also identifies the challenges, opportunities and recommendations for democratic reform in Yemen.
Electoral Processes in Selected Countries of the Middle East: A Case Study
The paper includes three brief case studies of the electoral processes in Yemen, Lebanon and Jordan. It attempts to assess how the electoral process in each of these countries was supportive, or not, of women’s participation. It also identifies the similarities and differences among them to help draw conclusions and make recommendations on how to better support women’s participation in elections in the Arab region, as well as in other post-conflict countries.
Enhancing the Role of Women: UNDP Yemen Electoral Support Programme
This presentation focuses on the efforts of the UNDP Yemen Electoral Support Programme to enhance women's political participation in Yemen. It outlines the programme's strategic areas of support, with a particular focus on voter education. It was presented at the Global Practice Meeting on Electoral Systems and Processes in Manila, Philippines in October 2004.
Report on the Status of Women in Yemen Five Years After Beijing 1995
This report evaluates the status of women in Yemen five years after the signing of the Beijing Platform for Action. It looks at women's involvement in a number of areas including poverty, education, health, violence, decision-making processes, human rights and violence. It also considers what steps the government has taken, and still needs to take, in order to conform to the agreements made in Beijing.
