Ghana: Reforms Must Address Land Inequality for Women

Presenting the survey findings at a workshop in Accra on "Identifying Elements of Gender Sensitive Land Reform Processes", Nana Ama Yirrah of COLANDEF noted that the role of women in the customary land administration has remained ambiguous in practice and renders women disadvantaged in terms of access and especially control over land in Ghana.  "There are ambiguities in the quantum of rights one has under the difficult types of customary land rights. This ambiguity creates confusion and in some cases leads to tensions which render the rights precarious."
