Helping Women Respond to the Global Food Crisis

The global food crisis brings into sharp relief the importance of women's contributions to agricultural production and household welfare, yet gender is largely absent from discussions of the crisis. The speakers on the panel will explore the differential effects of the food crisis on men and women, as both producers and consumers, and discuss the short and long term responses needed to ensure that women and girls have the necessary resources to respond effectively to rising food prices. This discussion will be held with:

Harold Alderman, World Bank

Cheryl Morden, IFAD

Agnes Quisumbing, IFPRI

Michael Usnick, WFP

Moderated by Ruth Meinzen-Dick, IFPRI
