USA: New National Initiative Reaches Young Girls and Women of Congress

A handful of women U.S. House Representatives convened in front of the Capitol in support of a new national initiative - Girls Rock the House (GRTH) - designed to educate young girls about the political process and encourage future political involvement. GRTH will reach 8th grade girls in political districts represented by women of the House of Representatives. Local GRTH groups will be formed for a 6-week learning experience, culminating with a national bill writing competition. Winners will convene in June for a 2-day trip to Washington, D.C. in June 2010, which includes meeting Congresswomen.More than 20% of the women of the House have committed to participating in the program and additional commitments are expected in the weeks to come.
