Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphones Gelu made this statement when speaking to women candidates in one of their training currently under way in Port Moresby.

Dr Gelu told the women candidates that in his observation during elections periods, women candidates never get much attention from political parties.

He said parties normally see women as weak candidates and not strong enough to win elections.

But despite these he said, the coming election already shows some good signs as more women are contesting both provincial and open seats unlike in the past.

Meantime, Dr Gelu has encouraged women candidates to take up the challenge and support each other during their campaigns....PACNEWS (PINA)
