Webinar: Presenting Findings of Fact Sheets on Gender Social Norms and Women’s Political Participation and Representation
This webinar will present and discuss a series of thematic fact sheets that explore how social norms influence women’s political participation and representation. The fact sheets draw on insights and evidence generated through WYDE interventions, including regional and intergenerational dialogues, young women’s empowerment academies, engagement with media practitioners, and contributions from the iKNOW Politics platform and partners.
The webinar will focus on three thematic areas:
-
Fact Sheet on Male Engagement on Gender Equality and Women’s Political Participation and Representation. This fact sheet features the role of men on promoting gender equality, women’s political participation and representation, the intersectionality of social norms and changing narratives on gender. The fact sheet builds on the action plan(output) from the WYDE Male Engagement Dialogue which highlights practical actions on male engagement for social norms transformation at personal, community and institutional levels.
-
Violence Against Women in Politics (VAWP), focuses on the prevalence of VAWP and the intersectionality with social norms and women’s empowerment in terms of their participation and representation, especially in the era of increasing technology-facilitated gender-based violence. It features measures and good practices to prevent and respond to VAWP as well as recommendations for sustainable interventions.
-
Fact Sheet on the global Context and Status on Young Women’s Political Participation and Representation focuses on the global outlook on young women’s participation and representation in politics, leadership and decision making and the key enablers for young women’s participation and representation. The fact sheet builds on the experiences/testimonials collated through the WYDE Young Women’s Empowerment Academies convened by International IDEA and incorporates the analysis of the young women’s personal development plans and journey mapping.
The session aims to:
-
Validate key findings, case studies, and recommendations.
-
Exchange regional and country-level practices on transforming gender social norms.
-
Identify emerging trends and shared priorities.
-
Inform future advocacy and programming under the WYDE initiative.
The webinar will bring together women in politics, media practitioners/journalists, male gender equality advocates/practitioners and CSOs, mostly those who have participated/engaged in WYDE activities.
Please note that this is a closed event and participation is by invitation only.
