Germany is pushing to narrow the gender gap with new targets aimed at increasing the role of women in board rooms and in the country’s largest political party. Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal that would increase the number of companies required to have at least 30% women on their supervisory boards to 600 from 105. (...)

Georgia’s parliament is currently nearly 90 percent male. But a newly adopted gender quota will boost the number of women members of parliament up to at least 20 percent this year and more in the future. Local assemblies will have an even higher proportion of women.

Tunisian-born French lawyer Gisele Halimi, who devoted her life to the feminist cause and was instrumental in winning the decriminalisation of abortion in France, died Tuesday aged 93, her family told AFP.

On Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) took to the House floor to deliver a powerful response to Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla) after he aggressively confronted her outside the Capitol, then delivered a non-apology defending his own behavior. She called out the ongoing acceptance of “violence and violent language against women” inside and outside of politics.
