Beijing +20 National Review, New Guinea

A one-day national consultation was held on 24 July 2014 in Port Moresby led by the Office of
the Development of Women, Department for Community Development and Religion, with
technical assistance from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment
of Women (UN Women). UN Women also provided technical assistance in the compilation and
drafting of this Report in collaboration with the Office of the Development of Women.
A presentation was given by Ms Gayle Tatsi, the Executive Director of the Office of the
Development of Women, on the Beijing Platform for Action and the Outcomes of the 23rd
Special Session of the General Assembly. The presentation covered the linkages with the Pacific
Platform for Action and the PNG National Women and Gender Equality Policy 2011-2015. An
overview of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) was given, in particular MDG 3 and
other cross cutting goals, and reference made to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and
the 2015 development agenda. Ms Tatsi highlighted the value of consultation with civil society
in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and thanked the civil society
representatives for their presence.
