Sunshine Coast MP Fiona Simpson will become the first female Speaker of the Queensland parliament. Ms Simpson has promised the new Liberal National Party dominated parliament will be held to the highest standards.
Premier Campbell Newman this week refused to speculate on which MPs would be handed ministerial posts. But he promised strong female representation in the cabinet, despite having just 13 women MPs to choose from.
