Philippines: Women group pushes for political participation

2009 Datu Bago awardee Lyda J. Canson bared during the recent Kapihan sa PIA that it is about time that women should take part in transforming politics by being involved in crafting, legislating, and implementing policies for the public.

It was cited that since 1947, women are considered the majority voters but none or very few surfaced to have sought a political seat. She then advised women leaders to exercise their right for a political position and learn the ropes of the electoral process.

"I just hope that our women will do their share in transforming politics from a politics of family dynasty to a politics of platform," Canson said.
