Zambia: Women happy with Libongani appointment

The Women for Change (WfC) and Non - Governmental organisation Coordinating Committee (NGOCC) have hailed President Michael Sata for appointing Ms Stellah Libongani as Inspector General (IG) of Police. 

On Tuesday President Sata announced the appointment of Ms Libongani as the new police chief, the first female IG since independence.

Ms Sikazwe said in an interview that the women movement was happy with the appointment. of Ms Libongani describing the decision as exciting.  "It is vital that women get recognised in Zambia which is a signatory to international protocols championing equal opportunities for men and women.  "I actually called her just after her appointment to congratulate her. As Women for Change, we shall even help her train police officers on issues of human rights," Ms Sikazwe said.
