Launch of “Women doing politics differently: Developing local caucus with women councillors"

The National Womens Council will launch the findings of research carried out in 2020 examining interest in local women's caucuses and what supports are necessary for their development. The research included a survey with women councillors, focus groups and one to one interviews with stakeholders.

Women continue to be seriously underrepresented in Local Government and make up just 25% of all councillors. Caucuses are one of the mechanisms that can support women's representation at local level.

Claire McGing - Gender and Politics researcher has carried out this research on behalf of NWC and will present the findings.
