Training Seminar on International Human Rights Diplomacy

International Human Rights Diplomacy is playing an increasingly crucial role in global management: the promotion and protection of human rights take centre stage not only in the framework of the United Nations (General Assembly, Human Rights Council, Security Council), but also in regional organisations and in bilateral relations and activities. Diplomats need to engage in intricate and often highly political negotiations on an ever broader range of issues as well as in the feed-back for the practical application of international standards and decisions at the national level and in public diplomacy. In order to tackle the substantive and practical challenges resulting from these developments, a growing number of diplomats trained in human rights, rule of law and democracy issues is strongly needed.
