Women parliamentarians have had the unique opportunity to gather for more than thirty years at the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) Meeting of Women Parliamentarians, which gives women MPs a platform to provide input into international decision-making and exchange experiences and best practices. The IPU’s Meeting of Women Parliamentarians was recently re-baptized – the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. Its organizing body, previously known as the Coordinating Committee of Women Parliamentarians is now called the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians. The changes were agreed by MPs attending the recent 134th IPU Assembly in Lusaka and were aimed at better communicating the remit and functioning of the group. The Women MPs’ Forum will continue to meet at IPU’s bi-annual assemblies to build on work to empower and encourage women MPs and ensure that their voices are heard in the wider work of IPU.
