Pakistan: Focus on implementation of existing laws urged

Source:

Speakers of a seminar on gender-based violence (GBV) have stressed the need to focus more on the implementation of existing laws, policies and plans of action in order to end violence against women at national level.

The event was organised by the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE) to mark the National Women’s Day. National Women Day marks an important milestone in the history of women’s movement in Pakistan when women, in 1983, protested and successfully challenged the promulgation of the Law of Evidence by the military dictator Ziaul Haq. Last year, the government officially declared February 12 as Women’s Day of Pakistan.
