Delilah Gore and Loujaya Toni, who represent two different political parties, succeeded despite widespread opinions that no woman would win a seat in this year's election.
Despite constituting 52% of the country’s population, the number of female registered voters is once again far less than men in the new computerised electoral rolls, according to a report provided by the acting chief election commissioner (CEC).
National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma's statement asking women to dress carefully to avoid crimes (like molestation) against them has sparked outrage and disgust with rights activists questioned the selection process of NCW office-bearers.
IN an effort to ensure women have equal participation in decision making, the Ministry of Women is in the process of identifying potential women candidates for the general elections in 2014.
