This report describes ways to increase women’s political participation and strategies for transforming political spaces for women.

This discussion guide aims at serving the community organizers and trainers of Asian rural and indigenous organizations as a tool for discussion. It aims to develop a common understanding of globalization; presents critique of globalization and its impacts on rural and indigenous women of Asia.

This guide is the first of its kind to provide an overview of the current range of local representative arrangements and electoral systems in Asia and the Pacific.

This report   includes salient point s  and recommendations from the BRIDGE 1996 report on National Machineries for Women (NWMs), updated with more recent thinking, policy and practice. Also included  are summaries of some best practice examples.

Despite the Philippines’ patriarchal institutions, narrow elite class, and repression of women, other social variables such as family ties, the Catholic Church, corruption, and gender symbolism have provided an opening for women to enter into the male-dominated political arena.

The project, “Legislative Advocacy for Women’s Rights,” aimed to facilitate Filipino women's full, informed participation in political life by increasing their presence in local elections and government, focusing primarily on the Cotabato Province in Mindanao, Philippines.
