Uganda: More women urged to enter politics ahead of 2021 General Elections

Former Ethics and Integrity minister Dr. Miria Matembe has challenged women to take up more leadership positions in the forthcoming general elections, in order to achieve gender balance.

Matembe also former Mbarara district woman Member of Parliament expressed concern that women are leaving their male counterparts to occupy most of the elective positions yet the decisions taken by leaders affect mainly women and children.

UN envoy applauds Uganda for empowering women

Bhatia, who also doubles as the Deputy Executive Director of the UN Women said she was pleased that at least 52 percent of positions on the committees in Maaji Refugee Settlement in Adjumani district, Northern Uganda were won by women.

The United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General for Resource Management, Sustainability, and partnerships, Anita Bhatia, has applauded Uganda for its keen interest in empowering women refugees to take up leadership responsibilities.
