Slow Ride To City Hall For Female Candidates, USA

Source:

When 2013 began, there was a fair amount of hope that women could make up for their relatively measly representation in local offices nationwide by capturing the mayoralty in three of the nation's five largest cities.

In all the U.S. cities with populations above 30,000, only 17 percent have women serving as mayor. EMILY's List, the political action committee that seeks to elect pro-choice women, hopes to change that.

Conservatives Have A 'Women' Problem, That Can Only Be Fixed With Gender Politics, USA

Source:

It’s difficult to find a politician, politico or pundit who denies Republicans have a “women” problem. At best, it seems Republicans fail to engage with women voters effectively, and at worst conservatives seem determined to alienate large swaths of the female electorate with outrageous or ill-considered comments.

How did we lose female lawmakers? USA

When Washington lawmakers assembled a few weeks ago to announce a deal on a state operating budget, something was noticeably absent: women.

Announcing the long-awaited bargain were 11 men — Gov. Jay Inslee, the leaders of the four political caucuses of the Legislature and the top budget negotiators.

What made it even more striking was that just a year ago, the governor and the Senate leader were women, while three years ago the House majority leader and lead budget writers were as well.
