Getting right woman minister, Malaysia

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak faces an uphill battle to select the most suitable women ministers to be part of his cabinet. Although the recent general election saw an increase in the number of female candidates standing, only a small number were voted in. Eleven ladies form part of Barisan Nasional's (BN) 133 MPs — a mere eight per cent in the coalition government — while observers are of the opinion that there should be at least 30 per cent in the cabinet. Women's Aid Organisation executive director, Ivy Josiah, said the 30 per cent target is part of the National Action Plan for Women.
