iKNOW Politics was presented to a study visit of the Women's Caucus of the Assembly of Kosovo on September 16-18 2008 in Oslo, Norway. The visit was sponsored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Mission in Kosovo and hosted by the Oslo Governance Centre of UNDP.
In addition to a workshop on iKNOW Politics, the women parliamentarians also learned about international conventions and tools to promote women's empowerment, and met with key government and civil society representatives in Norway - including the Gender Ambassador and the Secretary of State for Children and Equality. The visit included representatives of the governing coalition, the opposition and Kosovo's minority (K-Serbian) communities. The participants remarked that Norway is one of the first countries in the world that uses legislation to promote gender equality in both the public and private (business & family) spheres, and they plan to apply the lessons learned in their amendments to legislation on labour and maternity benefits. The parliamentarians commented on the value of legislators sharing experiences and the need for networking between women elected members. They look forward to more active participation in global networks such as iKNOW Politics.
