Finland: Record number of women elected into Finnish parliament

A total of 86 women were elected as members of the parliament in last Sunday's parliamentary election in Finland, or 43 percent of total 200 MPs, setting a new record of proportion of women MPs in the successive Finnish parliaments, Finnish media reported on Tuesday.

Finnish women won the right to vote and be elected in 1906. In 1907, 19 women became the first women MPs in Finland, which is the first country in the world to have women MPs.
