Ghana: Sixth Edition Of Women’s Agenda 2012 Held In Accra

Source:

The absence of specific initiatives such as affirmative action to implement global, continental and regional commitments that promote gender equality in participation and representation in decision-making processes is hindering women’s involvement in national processes for sustainable development in Ghana.

In the processes towards the 2012 elections, Ghanaian women are yet to see any definite action towards the full implementation of commitments on gender justice, in spite of all the guarantees under national laws and international instruments to which Ghana is a signatory.

In response, three women-centred Non-Governmental Organisations ( NGOs) ABANTU for Development, Women in Broadcasting (WIB) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) have created a platform dubbed ‘Women’s Agenda 2012’ to demand a social contract from those seeking the mandate of women to set a concrete agenda for implementing and addressing the under-representation of women in structures where decisions are made.
