The demand for 33% reservation in the Parliament and assembly has motivated more women to ask for tickets in the upcoming April 13 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu but the list of selected candidates shows that politics in this region is still dominated by men.
For the forthcoming polls, the ruling DMK has allotted only 11 seats to women candidates out of the 119 constituencies it is going to contest. This comes to just about 9% representation for women. In the AIADMK, only 13 women, including party chief J Jayalalithaa, figure in the list for 160 odd assembly candidates, which is just about 8%.
