To increase active participation of women corporators in politics, the Maharashtra State Election Commission has tied up with UNICEF to provide training to them. According to statistics, 76,585 of the 2,29,740 local corporators across municipalities, councils and village panchayats in the state are women. However, a survey done by the state election commission revealed that many women corporators, more so from rural areas, did not have even the basic idea about governance.
