Cook's PhD research - Increasing women's political representation: A new approach to developing security policy in Mali and Yemen - explores the unique and positive role that women in politics can play in addressing critical human security issues.
"I'm looking at making the link between women's political participation and how it affects security of the individual in their community and how that also links directly to hard security issues," said Cook.
