USA: NIU program to encourage women to choose politics

Women hold just 17 percent of the seats in Congress and 24 percent of the seats in state legislatures. Northern Illinois University has been picked to encourage and train young women to run for elected office. The school in DeKalb is among 11 colleges selected by the American Association of University Women and Running Start.

The programs called Elect Her -- Campus Women win in 2011 -- start next year. They aim to get women students more involved in politics on campus and as careers.
