Women can't break poll glass ceiling in India

Five months ago, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's passing reference to 50% quota for women triggered a raging storm in political circles and the tremors were felt in the saffron camp. Rival Congress also panicked at the possible repercussions.

The ripples refused to die till the chief minister cleared the air with a prompt disclaimer that the reservation remark alluded to 50% quota in civic bodies and panchayat polls and did not stretch tothe Assembly election. And the smiles - certainly broader this time - were back again. And netas are twirling their mustachios now.
