Where is the data on women’s leadership in public institutions?
The Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, the University of Pittsburgh and the United Nations Development Programme are co-organizing the event “Where is the data on women’s leadership in public institutions?”
In August of last year, UNDP and partners convened a Call to Action that reiterated the need for good gendered data so that governments will have the evidence needed to design the right policies for fostering equal access to decision-making roles in public service. Since then, the Sustainable Development Goals have set a specific Target (16.7) and Indicator (16.7.1) on the need for equal representation in public institutions.
In response, over the last 8 months, a graduate research team on Gender Equality in Public Administration has been set up by the University of Pittsburgh and UNDP to assess the availability and quality of data on women in civil service in over 100 countries.
This event will be an opportunity for the research team to present findings, and for partners and experts to provide feedback on the progress that has been made, share perspectives and offer inspiration for the next phase of work on expanding the evidence-base and developing tracking mechanisms, nationally and globally.
