Kenya: Back Women for Elective Posts

DEPUTY House Speaker Farah Maalim has called for more support of women to ensure they win elective posts in the coming general election. Maalim said women who are interested in positions from ward to national level should be accorded the necessary support to ensure gender parity in the political hierarchy. He said this should be done through sustained civic education on the need to have more women in leadership positions.

The Deputy Speaker also called for increased registration of women voters to support their during elections. "For all this to become a reality there is need for women parliamentarians to collaborate and provide the necessary leadership as well as lay down appropriate strategies to manage the emerging opportunities," Maalim said.
