Nigeria: 2011 Elections: Group Decries Low Number of Women Candidates

UN Women (formerly UNIFEM) has expressed dismay at the abysmally low number of women who emerged candidates at the various party primaries held in the country. Speaking yesterday at the post primaries evaluation workshop for women's participation in the 2011 general elections held by the organization in Abuja, UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Daouda Toure, said UN Women was shocked at the outcome of the primaries in the 2011 election but is aware that all hope is not lost.
