Women should be better represented in energy policy processes, according to a report by Earthlife Africa.

"South African policy-makers are accustomed to considering energy in terms of megawatts and macro-economics rather than in terms of the impact on ordinary people, and specifically on women," spokeswoman Makoma Lekalakala said in a statement on Tuesday.

The report, entitled "Second Class Citizens: Gender, Energy and Climate Change in SA", will be released in Johannesburg on Thursday. It examines the role of gender in energy policy processes, in view of the fact that more than half of South Africa's poor are women
