Thailand: Nepotism charges dismissed before women's fund launch

Source:

The government insists it will press forward and launch the multi-billion-baht Thai Women's Empowerment Fund (TWEF) despite strong criticism.

Elections of women representatives for the fund's sub-district, district and provincial committees have been held recently, with the government planning to inaugurate the TWEF by the end of this month.

Critics have alleged lack of transparency and nepotism in the election of the women's fund representatives.

Under the 7.7 billion baht fund, which was part of the Pheu Thai Party's election campaign platform, each province will receive about 100 million baht to implement projects for women's development.
