UN Women welcomes the outcome of the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. The agreement represents a milestone towards a transformative global development agenda that puts the empowerment of women and girls at its centre. Member States have stressed that while the Millennium Development Goals have advanced progress in many areas, they remain unfinished business as long as gender inequality persists.

UN Women welcomes the outcome of the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has been called a “sleeper” candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, but the New York Democrat doesn’t sound as though the White House is in her sights.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Gillibrand said Hillary Rodham Clinton — whom she succeeded in 2009 in the Senate — “will run and I think she will win.”

If I had to pick a couple of myths about the women’s movement that are most wrong, I think two might be tied for worst place. One is that this movement—also known as women’s liberation, feminism, womanism, mujerista!, grrrls and more—is only for white middle-class women.

The second myth is that women of the ’70s did all that could or should be done, and young women can now relax; feminism was their mothers’ movement.
