The Deputy General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Dr Yaw Baah, has said that the country’s economic problems could be solved when a female is elected as the president.

“If you want Ghana to develop, make a woman the president," he said, adding that “corruption will go down if we have many female ministers.”

Dr Baah made the call during the closing ceremony of a five-day capacity building workshop organised by the TUC for 50 of its staff members from all districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has developed a curriculum aimed at assisting women at all levels to participate and make decisions on issues that concerns them.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for a media platform highlighting groundbreaking women in history. But if history has taught us anything, it's that female achievements are often forgotten or filtered out. Female journalists, spies, investigators, pilots, soldiers, and even cinematic pioneers are only now being rediscovered and added back into the historical narratives where they always belonged.

When it comes to political participation, Chinese women have made great progress during the past decades.

In 2013, women accounted for 23.4 percent of the deputies who attended the 12th NPC (National People's Congress), and 17.6 percent of the members who attended the National Committee of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference). In 2012, women accounted for 23 percent of the delegates to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Each percentage set a record.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday was due to host a three-day conference on women in the workforce, as the country grapples with boosting a low female participation rate,AFP reports.

When one turns on the television, reads the newspaper or listens to the news on radio, one cannot help but notice that much of the news is focused on the negative events that are happening to our country. Thus, it wouldn’t be a surprise if many Filipinos have already made a conclusion that we no longer have government leaders who are committed to promoting good governance and leadership with integrity in our country.

WINDHOEK - The National Secretary of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) Women’s League is of the view that corruption will drastically decrease if more capable women occupy leadership positions.

Speaking to New Era just after the official proceedings of the RDP Women’s League Central Committee meeting on Saturday, Judith Melekie said: “Women are not impulsive spenders and know how to manage finances.”
