Libyan authorities should ensure women are well represented in the Constituent Assembly tasked with drafting the country’s new constitution, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a report published on Monday. Many women played key roles in the uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi, but some fear the gains they have made over the last two years could be eroded if women’s rights are not enshrined in new legislation.

Yemeni women are some of the fiercest women I have ever met. Through conflicts and famine, many have had to struggle for the survival of their families. The abject poverty afflicts Yemeni women in particularly harsh ways, yet they carry on and persevere.  Still, their pride in their culture and love for their beautiful country always shines through.

First female candidate registered for Iranian presidential elections

The first female candidate was registered for the upcoming presidential election in Iran, the Fars News Agency reported. Razieh Omidvar, 46, has submitted her registration to the election headquarters, and said that her goal is to improve the country's overall situation and to serve the public. The Iranian Constitution has not explicitly banned women from the post of presidency. Naturally, if Omidvar wins the elections, she will become the first ever female president of Islamic Republic of Iran.

“As a woman of Zimbabwe, I personally wanted a Constitution that is fit for me,” said Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development and Member of Parliament, Jessie Majome, who participated in Zimbabwe’s Constitution-making process as part of the Select Committee of Parliament that facilitated the process.
