ZNWL urges women participation in local govt, Zambia

Source:

ZAMBIA National Women's Lobby says it is saddened by the decreasing number of women holding high positions at local government level.
In an interview after opening a stakeholders meeting on women in politics project inception in Choma yesterday, Zambia National Women's Lobby executive director Juliet Chibuta said her organisation was focusing on local government because that was the area where women could easily ascend to decision-making positions.
"The number of women participation at local government level has been reducing over the years instead of increasing. We are focusing on local government level because we need more women there. Currently Zambia is at 6 per cent representation," she said.
Chibuta said her organisation would ensure that more women participate in the 2016 elections because there was need for more women representation in politics.
