Women at the Nexus of Recovery and Reconstruction
The Mission of Canada to the European Union and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance will host a panel discussion Women at the Nexus of Recovery and Reconstructions – Driving Global Political Participation, on the occasion of a visit to Brussels by Ms. Jacqueline O’Neill, Canada’s Ambassador for Women, Peace, and Security.
The discussion will address the essential need for the promotion of gender equality and inclusive leadership at the nexus of recovery and reconstruction, as demonstrated in recent conflicts, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the violation of the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan following developments in 2021, and other conflicts around the world. Panelists will discuss approaches to support women’s active and meaningful participation and implement gender perspectives in conflict-prevention and conflict-resolution mechanisms and institutions, and what synergies can be found with the European Union’s Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Gender Action Plan.
A question period following the panel will provide an opportunity to discuss these important matters with key decision-makers and experts. Views and inputs from civil society organizations and other stakeholders active in this field will help shape results-oriented policies and programming.
