“We will never be a successful society in which all are able to achieve their potential until we have equality for women”.
This is the opening sentence of Mr. Corbyn women’s manifesto entitled ‘Working with women’, published on 28 July 2015 as part of Mr. Corbyn's bid in the 2015 Labour Party leadership election.
Covering issues ranging from political participation, to education services, childcare, and everyday sexism, Mr. Corbyn’s proposals mirror his political views on greater equality and opportunity for all.
On gender parity in UK politics, Mr. Corbyn says “it can’t be right that women make up only 29% of the Houses of Parliament, around 30% on local councils, and 40% of our MPs in the Commons”. His leadership bid includes Labour Party’s commitment to gender parity with a 50:50 shadow cabinet.
According to last week’s polls, Mr. Cobyn is the top candidate in the leadership race. The results of the new Labour leader will be made public at a special party conference on 12 September.
