A record 294 women have filed papers to run for the U.S. House this year and shattered the previous high mark for female candidates set in 2010. An additional four women are expected to do so, according to the non-partisan Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
Ninety-seven women have won primary campaigns in 26 states, the center says. If voting patterns hold in remaining congressional primaries, there could be up to 60 more women on the general election ballot in November -- another record.
