Addressing the (almost entirely) female crowd, she shared her personal experiences in politics — as a woman, as a lesbian, and as a mom.
And while she recognizes that her win is seen as a victory, her main message to the group of about 300 gathered at McMaster University was that "it shouldn't be a surprise that we have a woman in leadership."
