The long election season in India is finally over. No, not India alone, but a few more countries in the Asian neighbourhood had also undergone a similar exercise.

Now, how do women in this political changeover stand to gain in terms of power sharing? What are the takeaways for them?

NEW DELHI (DataLEADS/ANN) - Philippines and Nepal has the highest percentage of parliamentary seats held by women.

Womens’ representation in the political structure has always been a waxing issue for the Asian countries. The World Bank data shows that over the last decade the socio-political changes have offered women opportunities to participate in the political structure and as a result the number of women parliamentarians has seen a significant increase.

“STEP IT UP for gender equality” was one among the many commitments renewed at the South Asian Speakers Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation, convened by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Sri Lanka’s Parliament in Colombo, July 11-12, 2018.
