Pengerang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has been selected as the Chairperson of the Malaysian Women's Parliamentary Caucus.

Azalina said as the chairperson of a women's caucus, she would definitely ensure that women-related issues would continue to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat.

Can 'Women Deliver' improve the lives of women and girls?

Early and forced marriage, gender equality and the rights of girls are on the agenda at this week's conference in Malaysia. Thousands of women's rights advocates, policymakers and civil society groups are gathering in Malaysia this week for the third Women Deliver conference. Guests include Melinda Gates; the head of the UN Development Programme, Helen Clark; UNFPA's executive director Babatunde Osotimehin, and acting head of UN Women Lakshmi Puri. The conference says it will be the largest event this decade to focus on the health and empowerment of girls and women.

Malaysia meeting on women's rights attracts policymakers and princesses

Civil society, government leaders, healthcare professionals, policymakers, two former US presidents' daughters, two princesses and at least one supermodel will meet in Malaysia this week for a conference to share ideas and sharpen messages around the rights and empowerment of women and girls to influence the future development agenda. The third Women Deliver global conference, held every three years, is timely as the international community looks ahead to what will come after the millennium development goals when they expire in 2015.

As many as 14 women politicians from Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Timor Leste called for bigger and better female political representation and participation in Southeast Asia. The call was made during the regional Women’s Leadership Forum Promoting Women’s Representation in Southeast Asia held in Kuta over the weekend.
